The company was established in 1989 as an independent enterprise
paying rental for facilities within the University of Bristol, England,
whilst undertaking contract work. In 1994, i2LResearch Ltd moved to Cardiff
as a Limited company and became a wholly owned subsidiary of Cardiff
University. The company experienced strong growth in its product
development and testing unit and decided in 2000 to concentrate
its efforts in this area.
In
February 2001, Cardiff University agreed to reduce its share-holding
in the company as part of a management buyout by the Directors and
staff of the company. Assistance in this process was given by the
Wales Spin-Out Programme. The company relocated to a new, purpose
built facility at the end of February 2001 (pictured above).
Since spin-out i2LResearch Ltd has expanded into new areas such as Resistance Monitoring and Market Analysis. i2LResearch Ltd will continue
to refine, expand, adapt and develop new services. It is our aim
to deliver at the highest possible standard.
In March 2005 the company established a new branch office in Newcastle upon Tyne, directed by Dr Catherine Whaley. The new office gives i2LResearch Ltd a two-site UK field trials capability and has been an instant success. i2LNorthEast is expected to show strong growth in the coming few years.
In 2007 i2LResearch Ltd embarked on a significant upgrade to its facility with Welsh Assembly Government assistance, and its North East office occupied and refitted new offices and laboratories.
In late 2007, the Company announced a Strategic Alliance with Agri2000 Soc. Coop. of Bologna, Italy, extending our trials capability into the Mediterranean area.
In 2008, i2LResearch Ltd established a branch in the Czech Republic, i2LEast, as part of its on-going collaboration with the University of South Bohemia. The new office, managed by Mr Pavel Foltan, allows the company to carry out a number of value added trials, for example on head-lice, fleas, and mollusc.
